The latest modification of the Russian Mi-171SH Storm helicopter (another designation is Mi–8AMTSH2) was presented in its final appearance at the Army-2023 air show.
In its spacious cabin, it can carry up to 36 passengers or 4,000 kg of cargo. This makes it an effective means of deploying troops. It can also carry a 3-ton cargo attached under the fuselage.
- the Algerian edition of MENA Defense says, indicating that the on-board protection system is represented by both passive and active means.
The crew cabin and cargo compartment are protected by armor consisting of titanium and aramid, with Kevlar plates mounted on vital areas of the vehicle. Protection is enhanced by anti-missile and electronic countermeasures, which increase the helicopter's resistance to potential threats.
As indicated, the machine is equipped with a complex of electronic notification and detection of the launch of missiles "President-S". It, in combination with launchers for shooting lures with IR radiation, "forms an optimal protective bubble designed to combat various MANPADS and IR-guided missiles."
The helicopter is also equipped with a radar warning system receiver, which allows it to detect the course, location and type of threat, "giving unprecedented protection" from them and, therefore, increasing the chances of survival in a hostile environment.
These infrared and radar countermeasures systems are integrated to reduce the likelihood of detection by the enemy and operate in a duplicate mode with decoy shooting launchers and IR jamming equipment.

As noted, the Storm is equipped with modern navigation systems, advanced avionics, including a fully digitized cockpit and navigation maps projected on screens, infrared, day and night vision, and meteorological radar.
- it is explained in the publication.
The helicopter is equipped with two VK-2500-03 engines, giving a combined power of 1200 hp higher than that of the older TV3-117VM, which, among other things, ensures reliable operation in various weather conditions, including in extreme heat or at high altitude. The flight distance is 610 km or 815 km with the installation of an additional tank and 1065 km – two tanks, which are located inside the cargo compartment.
The machine is equipped with a new generation of composite blades, which are lighter, more efficient and easier to maintain. The tail rotor was replaced with an X-shaped one, identical to the one used on the new generation Mi-28.
The wings of the Mi-171SH have 6 suspensions, which can be equipped with a wide range of weapons, depending on the specifics of the mission. These can be C-8 or C-13 NAR, machine gun launchers, FAB-100/250/500 bombs and ATGM "Attack". Two 12.7mm Kord machine guns are mounted on both sides of the fuselage and are powered by ammunition crates placed inside the helicopter. On the left and right sides there are mounts for automatic weapons.
- an assessment is given in the Algerian press.
