On January 9, 2024, a Su-22M4 fighter-bomber of the Vietnamese Air Force crashed during a training flight. The corresponding footage of the car crash has been published online.

As indicated in the publication Báo Thanh Niên, the plane took off from the base in Da Nang. At 11:15 a.m. local time, the Su-22 crashed. Its fragments were found in the area of one of the towns of Quang Nam province, being scattered over a large area.
The pilot, an Air Force captain, managed to eject. Footage was captured showing him landing on a parachute. He survived without serious injury.

Significant damage was recorded on the ground. One of the local civilians was injured. Local authorities, after talking with residents of houses damaged in the accident, have drawn up a support plan. Each household will receive up to 4 million dong (about $ 160) for the renovation of real estate.

The cause of the accident was recognized as a malfunction of the aircraft. The pilot reported her before ejecting.
The crashed Su-22M4 belonged to the 929th Fighter Regiment. A year earlier, on January 31, 2023, a similar aircraft of the Vietnamese Air Force crashed. Then the pilot could not survive. In total, Hanoi has about two dozen Su-22M4S in service – this is an export version of the Soviet Su-17M4 equipped with reconnaissance equipment.
