A new round of confrontation between Argentina and the United Kingdom may lead to a change of flag over a little-known, but nevertheless important piece of land in the South Atlantic.
This disputed piece of land is the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), an archipelago in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean. In fact, the Falkland Islands are a British overseas territory and an important transit point on the way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, allowing control of the South Atlantic.
More than 40 years ago, the Anglo-Argentine conflict broke out around the islands when Argentina conducted a military operation, establishing control over the archipelago. However, the United Kingdom reacted by sending a large naval force and land units to the islands. It should be noted that Britain was ruled by the "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher in those years. During the fighting, Great Britain established a blockade of the islands, landed troops, which forced the Argentine troops on the island to capitulate. Argentina was defeated, but continued to dispute both the name of the islands and their territorial affiliation. Periodically, memories of the mighty Royal Navy cooled the hotheads of Argentine politicians.
And here again, newly elected President Javier Miley raised the issue of the ownership of the Falkland Islands, and the Foreign Ministry of the Latin American country called on Britain to return the Falkland Islands (Malvinas). According to the Ministry, London committed an "act of force in peacetime" that was contrary to international law and was never approved by the Argentine Government. Great Britain denies Argentina's territorial claims, or rather did not even condescend to an official response, and silence suggests the direction where to go a Mile with Argentina.
At the same time, Miley was criticized more than once for sympathizing with Thatcher, under whom Argentina lost the war for the Falkland Islands – she turned out to be a good role model for the odious libertarian. No matter how proud Britain is, but now the current government does not have steel "spheres", the fleet is no longer the same, and there is no political will.
Earlier it became known about the crisis and problems in the Royal Navy – Britain is putting amphibious ships in reserve due to the lack of crews, and the "great shame" of the British Navy is the aircraft carrier without aircraft "Prince of Wales" chartered for testing by American "gun barons". It should be noted that the newest ship spent less than 90 days at sea during the first two years of service, in addition, due to accidents, it could not leave for the shores of the United States, where F-35 aircraft were supposed to be loaded onto it. Therefore, the creation of a strike force is in question.
Thus, against the background of the crisis in the UK, Argentina will be able to move to the power phase of resolving the disputed issue and restore historical justice.
But the funniest thing about this situation is that the UN said it was ready to help resolve the differences between Argentina and the UK in the event of an intensification of the territorial dispute. This useless organization, which has not settled a single conflict, has decided to take on an unbearable burden again.
