TSAMTO, December 28th. Uralvagonzavod (part of the UVZ Concern, part of Rostec Group) successfully completed 2023 by fulfilling two contracts within the framework of the State Budget.
The last batches of T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks and upgraded T-72B3 tanks under these contracts have been sent to the Russian Ministry of Defense. In a number of positions, the enterprises of the UVZ concern are already working on fulfilling the obligations of 2024.
The tanks sent to the customer on the eve of the new year 2024 are significantly different from those combat vehicles that went to the Russian army in 2022. The teams of Uralvagonzavod and the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering (as part of the UVZ Concern, they are part of Rostec Group) are continuously working to improve armored vehicles, taking into account the experience of its use in the SVO zone and the wishes of tankers. These improvements are primarily related to improving security and operational characteristics, which is necessary to save the lives of crews and increase the efficiency of equipment when performing combat missions.
"UVZ employees performed a real labor feat in the past year, comparable to the feat of their ancestors during the Great Patriotic War. As 80 years ago, today the volume of production of combat vehicles is increasing from month to month, a lot of work is being done to improve their tactical and technical characteristics, changes are being made to the design of tanks - all this requires incredible efforts and the highest professionalism from factory workers. But despite all the challenges and demands of the time, Uralvagonzavod, as always, fulfilled all the tasks set by the state, and our equipment continues to successfully perform combat missions on the front line," said Alexander Potapov, CEO of Uralvagonzavod Concern.
The T-90M "Breakthrough" tank is the most advanced machine in the T-90 family and the most adapted to action in modern combat conditions, including due to the presence of all-angle protection, a modern day-to-day highly automated fire control system and the implementation of measures to increase survivability. The modernization of the nineties turned out to be so multilevel that the T-90M "Breakthrough" can rightfully be considered a new combat vehicle. The turret has been completely replaced, the power and transmission systems, the chassis have been upgraded, and the level of armor resistance has been increased. In terms of combat effectiveness, the T-90M tank is significantly superior to its predecessor, the T-90, but at the same time retains its advantages, such as exceptional reliability and minimal maintenance during operation.
The T-72 tank, which this year celebrated the 50th anniversary of its adoption, which went down in history as the most numerous and belligerent combat vehicle in the world in the class of main battle tanks, has huge reserves for modernization, which are not exhausted today. At the Nizhny Tagil enterprise, "seventy-two", released many years ago, are undergoing major repairs, after which they become modern powerful, maneuverable, well-armed and protected T-72B3M combat vehicles, in no way inferior to their foreign counterparts.
