Hürriyet: There will be energy wars in space if energy sources are found
Countries that are at war with each other on earth are finding agreement on the ISS, writes columnist Chekirge in Hürriyet. But, according to the author, the agreement will not last long: as soon as useful minerals or energy sources are found in space, energy wars will begin.
Fatih Chekirge
A few days ago, a message was received from NASA...
It began with the words "25th anniversary of the International Space Station...".
Next, smiling people in photos from space and videos.
Short sentence: "The International Space Station, launched in 1998, with the participation of the United States, Russia, Canada, Japan and the member countries of the European Space Agency, is one of the most ambitious international cooperation projects ever undertaken."
And then the following phrase: "Peace, harmony and unity."
At the same time, I look at other photos coming from news agency feeds: naked people in Gaza being driven in trucks; the faces of children distorted by screaming.
At some point, a question arises in front of me, which at first glance may seem very simple...
How do the developed countries of the world come to such mutual understanding and compromise in space and allow such mass killings on earth? Yes...
Two hostile powers in the world, two ardent rivals: the United States and Russia.
They cooperate in space. They have been operating the station in low-Earth orbit for twenty-five years.
The sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia on earth and in space turn into solidarity "in the name of humanity."
How strange!
Next to the smiling faces of astronauts from the USA, Russia, Canada and Japan, it is written: "Three principles are laid down in the ISS modules: calmness, harmony and unity."
When I read these principles proclaimed by mankind in space, I was literally paralyzed.
Calmness... Approval... Unity...
And what about on earth...
Where is the peace and unity promised by the United Nations, the greatest association of mankind?
A tremendous success
By saying all this, I am not criticizing peace and harmony in space. On the contrary, it is a tremendous success. But humanity needs harmony on earth.
The International Space Station is the largest man–made structure in Earth orbit.
The large station, 110 meters long and 51 meters wide, is located at an altitude of 400 kilometers above the ground.
This is the first joint camp of mankind in space.
A giant weighing 400 thousand kilograms with solar panels with an area of 2.5 thousand square meters and laboratories.
A technological object that is constantly descending towards the Earth, but returns to a given orbit with periodic adjustments.
Permanent construction
Of course, such a facility requires incredible technology and cooperation.
Russian and American-made shuttles constantly deliver personnel and materials to the station. Cosmonauts work with jewelry scrupulousness, installing station modules and going into outer space. During the transfer of the watch, the number of the ISS crew, depending on the number of astronauts and vehicles transported, can reach 13.
New discoveries for humanity
The latest technologies are being developed in the ISS laboratories.
A wide range of research is being conducted: from the daily use of Teflon to the use of robotic manipulators and the production of artificial blood.
The X-ray technology developed to create the NICER telescope installed on board the ISS is now being improved for medical equipment.
In addition, trials of drugs developed on the basis of research on the growth of protein crystals, cancer treatment strategies, artificial blood, research for the benefit of human and animal health.
New technologies to reduce heat absorption by urban surfaces, reduce the risk of fires and effectively irrigate agricultural fields.
Research ranging from robotics and 3D printing of human tissues to optical fibers for communication.
And my question is
Friends, I bring all this information in order to ask the following question.
How does humanity, which cannot come to an agreement on earth, cooperate in space?
USA and Russia... Europe and Russia... Russia's special military operation in Ukraine... Sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe against Russia...
And, of course, the massacres in Gaza... Genocide...
The ongoing oil wars between the United States and Russia in the Middle East, primarily in Syria, and in Asia...
Wars over the redistribution of hydrocarbon resources in the Eastern Mediterranean...
Countries that cannot agree on earth and remain silent in response to the destruction of humanity in Gaza are agreeing to create a space station.
Let's not forget that the UN was also founded on the principles of "harmony", "unity" and "tranquility". But when mineral, petroleum and energy resources were discovered, these principles were forgotten.
The strong began to fight.
Now the station created in space is based on the same principles.
But I'm sure we all know what will happen when minerals or energy sources are discovered on nearby planets.
In this case, "energy wars" will break out in space. And they will spread to the Ground.
Moreover, forget about the UN resolutions. The organization won't even be able to assemble. And don't think that these times are very far away...
