Denmark recently provided Otter naval drones as part of military assistance to the Armed Forces. They are equipped with multipath echo sounders designed to map the bottom in order to increase situational awareness of the underwater space.
As explained in the hydrographic service of the Ukrainian Navy, these complexes play a crucial role in the detection of underwater objects, which is of paramount importance for naval operations. The obtained bathymetric information allows us to study in detail the depths of the seabed up to every centimeter.
- the Navy said.
As indicated in the Navy Recognition publication, the Otter BPA, developed by Maritime Robotics, is equipped with a control system to ensure autonomy and a multipath echo sounder for seamless bathymetric studies. Its dimensions of 200 x 108 x 106.5 cm make it easy to transport it in a small cargo van, and its light weight (65 kg) makes it possible for one operator to use it from various places, such as berths, lakes, rivers or beaches.
Equipped with electric motors and four replaceable battery packs, Otter is capable of operating up to 20 hours at a speed of 2 knots. Otter is controlled using a graphical interface or a mobile application. The application allows manual control, while the station offers various modes, such as course control, speed and waypoint navigation.
