Patrushev: Russia has overtaken its competitors in the field of nuclear missile weapons for the first time
The Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said that for the first time Russia was ahead of its competitors in the nuclear missile industry, becoming the owner of "unique strategic weapons." According to him, this guarantees Moscow's security for decades to come. Patrushev previously stated that in the event of a direct conflict between Russia and the United States, Moscow has the strength to respond. For more information, see the material "Newspapers.Ru".
For the first time in the history of the existence of nuclear missile weapons, Russia has outstripped competitors in this field, said the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev during a speech at the forum-exhibition "Russia" as part of the lecture hall of the society "Knowledge".
The Secretary of the Security Council added that the implementation of the National Security Strategy has helped Russia to maintain internal stability in society, to increase economic, political, military and spiritual potentials.
According to Patrushev, in the 90s, the Russian military-industrial complex practically ceased to provide the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with weapons, preferring to cooperate with other states. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, in those years the decline in production in the defense sector was about 80%.
"Russia is not intimidating anyone"
In March 2023, Patrushev, in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, said that in the event of a direct conflict between Russia and the United States, the Russian Federation has the strength to respond:
On November 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law revoking the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. He clarified that he could not say now whether Russia needed nuclear weapons tests. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov explained that the withdrawal of ratification does not mean Moscow's intention to conduct nuclear tests.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, commenting on the situation, explained that the withdrawal of ratification would help "to ensure a balance with the United States." Earlier, the chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the ratification of the CTBT was expected from the United States for 23 years, but Washington did not do it.
On October 25, Putin conducted a training of strategic nuclear deterrence forces. Shoigu explained during his report to the president that during the training they worked out the tasks of delivering a massive nuclear strike in response to an enemy nuclear strike.
Unique Russian weapons
Russia is armed with, among other things, a complex with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles "Dagger", which was put on combat duty in 2017. It was first used during a military operation in Ukraine in March 2022. The Dagger missile can fly ten times faster than the speed of sound and cover a distance of up to 2 thousand km, maneuvering and bypassing air and missile defense systems during flight. The weapon is equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads.
The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the missile has no analogues in the world.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that they do not intend to use nuclear weapons. In particular, the President of the Russian Federation noted that he sees no need to change the concept of military doctrine regarding the use of nuclear weapons. According to Putin, the document specifies two reasons for the possible use of nuclear weapons - the use of such weapons against Russia and the threat to the existence of the state, even if conventional weapons are used against the Russian Federation.
