Successful air defense work
On October 17, Russian air defense intercepted five tactical missiles and four GLSDB bombs of the armed formations of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
As sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia, on the night of October 17, the Ukrainian command attempted to deliver a massive blow with modern high-precision weapons. Including the latest GLSBD operational and tactical complexes. Their targets were, among other things, the objects on which aviation equipment is based.
Simultaneously with the missile attack, the Ukrainian command launched kamikaze drone attacks in several directions at once. As the interlocutors of the publication noted, Russian air defense systems generally coped with the repulse of the strike. Including at least one GLSBD system was intercepted before the separation of the guided bomb from the missile occurred.
If conventional missiles fired from multiple launch rocket systems can be tracked by the contrail, then the GLSBD bomb is just planning, because of this it becomes a rather difficult target, military expert Alexey Leonkov told Izvestia.
"But our anti—aircraft gunners have found a way to shoot them down," he stressed. — This bomb is still considered experimental by the Americans. During the entire time of its launch, there were several of its launches, but our servicemen worked on all of them. This multiple launch rocket system was supposed to demonstrate an industrial range of 130-160 kilometers. It is also highly accurate, which flies along the coordinates of targets and knocks them down. Apparently the Americans are planning to create a so-called "long arm".
The new building of the Almaz-Antey plant
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu took part in the ceremony of handing over the hull of the future missile factory of the Almaz-Antey concern, the military department reported on October 17. It will produce domestic air defense systems, which are considered the best in the world.

Today, in a difficult military-political situation, it is important to maintain the equipment of the army and navy at a level that guarantees an adequate response to any challenges and threats to Russia's security," Shoigu said at the ceremony.
The Minister stressed that the solution of this task largely depends on the ability of defense enterprises to meet the needs of troops in weapons and military equipment in a short time and in full. The launch of such a plant should allow increasing the pace of production of the most popular weapons.
He also thanked Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Moscow builders "for the successful implementation of an important project for the country."

All VFU attacks are repelled
During the day, Russian troops continued to successfully repel the attacks of the VFU in the Kupyansk, Krasnolimansk, Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on October 17.
In the Kupyansk direction, units of the Western Group of Troops repelled seven enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Ivanovka, Timkovka, Kharkiv region and Nadia in the LPR.
In the Krasnolimansky direction, the units of the Center group of troops, army aviation strikes, artillery fire repelled two attacks of the VFU assault groups, and also defeated the troops and equipment of two mechanized VFU brigades in the areas of the settlements of Chervonaya Dibrova, Shipilovka and Kuzmino in the LPR.
In the Donetsk direction, units of the Southern Group of Troops repelled nine attacks by Ukrainian units. The enemy's personnel and equipment were defeated in the areas of Orekhovo-Vasilevka and Andreevka in the DPR.
In addition, AN AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station was destroyed, as well as a field ammunition depot of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the VFU.
In the South Donets direction, the units of the Vostok group of troops inflicted a fire defeat on the troops of the units of the 72nd mechanized brigade of the VFU in the Ugledar area in the DPR.
Four attacks of the mechanized and amphibious assault brigades of the VFU in the area of Verbovoye were reflected in the Zaporozhye direction.

The Orlan-10 drone is the eyes of intelligence and artillery. He gathers underground in a dugout. According to our servicemen, there is enough space to check all the systems and lay the parachute. They launch the drone quickly and each time from a new location.
— We fly all the time when the weather allows. Even now, when we are talking, I have "birds" in the air," said the commander of the UAV unit with the call sign Alder.
The unit has not only reconnaissance, but also attack drones. They have dozens of VFU combat vehicles on their account.
— A shaped charge can be installed in the middle, but the main difference from the rest of the drones is the absence of a camera. The homing head is installed in front," the correspondent said.
Such a number of Russian drones affected the tactics of the VFU. Only infantry is now sent to the front line from the enemy side.
— If they used to drive up close in combat vehicles, now they try to stay away from us, — one of the fighters stressed.
Russian air defense shot down the Mi-8
In just a day in the special operation zone, Russian troops destroyed up to 1,175 fighters of the VFU and 63 pieces of equipment, including tanks, howitzers, self-propelled guns and armored vehicles, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on October 17.
