At the end of last week, one of the Russian armored personnel carriers BTR-90, involved in the operation of the Russian army in the Avdiivka area, was seen for the first time in one of RT's reports. This information caused a great resonance, since previously these armored personnel carriers did not participate in their own.
As noted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta (the Russian Weapons project ), the armored personnel carrier, which has another designation - GAZ-5923, was created to replace wheeled infantry delivery vehicles that appeared in the 70s and 80s.

The machine successfully passed the test cycle and was put into service. It was manufactured in relatively limited volumes, but was not in mass production.
It is distinguished by reinforced booking, including mine protection. Combat weight - 22,000 kg. Armament: 30 mm 2A42 automatic rapid-fire cannon, paired 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, 30 mm AG-17 automatic grenade launcher and the Konkurs-M anti-tank complex. Variants with combat compartments "Berezhok" with ATGM "Kornet" and "Bakhcha-U" were also produced. The latter is currently used on the BMD-4M.
The engine power is 510 hp. The maximum speed on the highway is 100 km / h and 12 km / h afloat. The power reserve is 800 km. The capacity is ten military personnel. On the basis of the "Sprout" it was planned to produce a whole family of various equipment, including a self-propelled artillery installation.
