RIA Novosti: Zelensky agreed with the United States and Britain on a new offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Russian media reported that Vladimir Zelensky agreed with Washington and London on a new offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in October. Presumably, the plans include the seizure of the Zaporozhye NPP. Kiev and the West did not comment on this information. Prior to that, the Ukrainian president traveled to the United States, where he agreed on a new package of military assistance, and sources reported on a "behind-the-scenes" agreement with Joe Biden on the supply of long-range ATACMS missiles. Details are in the material of "Gazeta.Ru».
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky agreed with the United Kingdom and the United States on a plan for a new counteroffensive in early October, Russian news agencies RIA Novosti and TASS reported, citing an unnamed source "close to the competent authorities."
"For these purposes, a large grouping of the AFU marines is concentrated in the Mykolaiv region to force the Dnieper River," the agency interlocutor said.
According to him, at the same time, the special forces of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, trained by British instructors, "plans actions to seize the Zaporozhye NPP." The source added that Russia is "closely monitoring" the actions of the Ukrainian army.
On September 24, the head of the Zaporozhye public movement "We are together with Russia", Vladimir Rogov, stated that after the weather deteriorates, the APU can "focus on forcing the Dnieper in order to capture the Zaporozhye NPP." Before that, he said that the Ukrainian army had transferred strategic reserves to the Orekhov direction near Rabocino "for the third wave of the offensive."
AFU Counteroffensive
The AFU launched a counteroffensive in June of this year, its goal was called access to the Sea of Azov, cutting the land corridor to the Crimea and the blockade of the peninsula. According to the Ukrainian edition "Country.ua", for three months of fighting, Kiev failed to fulfill these tasks.
According to media reports, the Ukrainian army is moving towards Tokmak - the main tactical target in the Orekhiv direction - at a speed of only three kilometers per month.
"Melitopol, through which the land corridor to Crimea passes, is still more than 70 km in a straight line and 100 km by road. That is, about two years of fighting at their current speed," the article says.
At the same time, according to Ukrainian journalists, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to get to Mariupol "at least a year and a half" at the current speed. The publication also emphasizes that during the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian army failed to break through the Russian defense.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have not achieved the goals of their offensive in any area of hostilities. The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, expressed the opinion that the Ukrainian counteroffensive "choked", and the Western weapons transferred to Kiev "turned out to be ineffective against Russian equipment."
Zelensky's trip to the USA
Earlier in September, the President of Ukraine visited the United States, where he held talks with his American counterpart Joe Biden, visited the Pentagon and addressed the General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
During Zelensky's visit, a new package of US assistance to Ukraine was announced, it included additional ammunition for HIMARS missile systems, Avenger air defense systems, Javelin anti-tank complexes, more than three million small arms cartridges and other weapons.
The American TV channel NBC, citing its own sources, reported that the presidents of Ukraine and the United States also "behind the scenes" agreed to supply a "small" batch of long-range ATACMS missiles, which Kiev requested. No official announcements were made, and the White House declined to comment.
A few days after Zelensky's visit to the United States, it also became known that Ukraine had received the first batch of American Abrams tanks, the deliveries of which were announced in January 2023.
