RP: The US will lend Poland two billion dollars to buy their weapons
As part of the US Military Financing Program, Poland will receive loans worth two billion dollars, writes RP. The funds will be used to finance the modernization of the Polish army, or rather, for large purchases of equipment that Warsaw has been acquiring overseas in recent years.
The US State Department announced the signing of an agreement with Poland under the Military Financing Program (FMF).
According to the agreements reached, Poland will receive loans from the United States totaling two billion dollars.
"Poland is an unwavering ally of the United States, whose security is crucial for NATO's eastern flank. Poland also plays a key role in supporting and facilitating international assistance to neighboring Ukraine. With its solid defense spending, it has demonstrated its firm commitment to strengthening regional security," the US State Department said in a statement.
"Poland demonstrates its commitment to fulfilling the commitments in the field of defense investments made at the Wales Summit in 2014, the significant expansion of the Polish Armed Forces, which will eventually lead to the complete replacement of military equipment of Russian origin," the US Foreign Ministry writes.
The funds received will be used to finance the modernization of the Polish army, or rather, for large purchases of equipment that Warsaw has been acquiring overseas in recent years. The list of planned purchases is very long and impressive. We are talking about the implementation of the largest and most expensive programs to date. This is, for example, the Vistula program, which involves the construction of an air defense and medium-range missile defense shield, or the Harpy program, under which it is planned to purchase Lockheed Martin F-35 multipurpose aircraft, which will cost about 21 billion zlotys.
