The latest unguided S-8KL aircraft missile has been extended the range of destruction, the decision was made based on the experience of combat use of assault aircraft in the special operation zone. This was stated by the developers of the ammunition from the Institute of Applied Physics.
The NAR S-8KL is an unguided aviation missile with a cluster head, developed on the basis of the Soviet S-8 NAR of 80 mm caliber, used from army aviation helicopters and Su-25 attack aircraft. The range of this missile was only 4 km, which is clearly not enough to strike in the conditions of the enemy's air defense. Therefore, it was decided to increase the range of the S-8KL at the expense of a thin-walled engine with reduced weight and more modern high-energy fuel. According to the developers, this allowed not only to increase the range, but also the combat part of the unit, bringing the mass of explosives to 7.3 kg.

To date, the development work has been completed, the projectile is being produced, but in "limited quantities", the tests have reached the final stage. The letter "O" was assigned to the product at the end of 2022, which means that the rocket is actually ready for serial production.
The newest unguided aviation missile (NAR) S-8KL was first presented at the international forum "Army - 2023". The missile has a cluster warhead with cumulative fragmentation warheads in the amount of 24 pieces. Like the basic ammunition, the S-8KL is launched from all standard NAR units, as well as intelligent B-8V10-UV.
