MOSCOW, August 29. /tass/. The Ukrainian authorities plan to organize the production or purchase up to 200 thousand unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of different models this year. This was stated by the head of the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine Yuriy Shchigol.
"When we started this project, we set the task [to produce and purchase] about 200 thousand drones," he said on the air of an information marathon broadcast by several Ukrainian TV channels. "There will definitely be about 180-200 thousand drones this year."
According to Shchigol, the government of Ukraine has already signed contracts for 25 billion hryvnias ($688 million) out of 40 billion hryvnias ($1.09 billion) allocated for the purchase of UAVs. According to these contracts, 22 thousand attack UAVs should be produced, and about 15 thousand of them have already been transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
However, the head of Special Communications admitted that the army loses up to 45 reconnaissance drones on average per day, and there are heavy losses of attack UAVs. "These are the simplest Mavic, Matrice, and large professional drones of Ukrainian and foreign production. Therefore, it is impossible to provide them in such quantity at the same time, they are not produced so much either in the world or in Ukraine," he concluded.
