The Turkish Defense Ministry announced the completion of tests and the adoption of the Akya national heavy torpedo developed by Roketsan.

The new torpedo will be used on the Preveze class submarines, Gur (local modifications of the German Type 209/1400 diesel-electric submarines project) and Reis (Type 214 license-built diesel-electric submarines). Allegedly, its integration into the combat control systems of the ships was successfully implemented.
Akya has a range of over 50 km. The speed of movement is more than 45 knots. Both surface ships and submarines act as targets of destruction. An active-passive sonar with the possibility of acoustic counteraction is used. Guidance is carried out autonomously or via a fiber-optic cable. The fuse is triggered when approaching the target or when it collides with it.
