Uralvagonzavod clarified that this version of the tank support combat vehicle still has no analogues in domestic and foreign tank construction in terms of a combination of firepower and security
YEKATERINBURG, August 11. /tass/. Uralvagonzavod (UVZ, part of Rostec) will present a variant of the Terminator tank support vehicle (BMPT), which allows upgrading decommissioned T-72 tanks at the Army-2023 forum, the press service of the concern told TASS.
"At the Army-2023 forum, a variant of the tank support combat vehicle based on the T-72 tank will be presented, which allows upgrading the decommissioned "seventy-two" to a combat vehicle with new characteristics and functions almost at the level of the BMPT. This is relevant for all countries armed with T-72 tanks, which are more than 50 states," the press service reported.
They clarified that the BMPT developed by the company still has no analogues in domestic and foreign tank construction in terms of a combination of firepower and security. "To solve combat tasks in the conditions of modern combat, including in low-intensity conflicts and urban battles, the BMPT tank support combat vehicle serves. For the destruction of tank-dangerous enemy manpower, it has a large ammunition package, including with fragmentation shells. And the large angles of guidance of automatic guns of the product make it possible to hit targets on the upper floors of buildings and low-flying aerial targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles," the UVZ explained.
The T-72 tank celebrated its 50th anniversary on August 7, 2023, it is the most massive tank in the world in the class of main battle tanks. On the basis of the tank, a heavy flamethrower system TOS-1 "Pinocchio", TOS-1A "Solntsepek", an armored repair and evacuation vehicle BRAM-1, an engineering barrier vehicle IMR-2 and a bridge-laying machine MTU-72 were created and put into serial production.
Other exhibits
Among other exhibits at the concern's stand, a full-scale sample of the UBIM universal armored engineering vehicle is presented, which combines the capabilities of three engineering vehicles at once - an armored repair and evacuation vehicle, an engineering barrier vehicle and an armored mine clearance vehicle. The vehicle is designed to ensure the advance of troops and perform engineering work in conditions of enemy fire, including in conditions of radioactive contamination of the terrain.
"UBIM provides the laying of column paths and laying of road surfaces, passages in stone and forest rubble, filling of ditches, craters and other obstacles, the arrangement of exits and exits in the steepness of river banks and ravines up to 6 m high, felling trees, uprooting stumps, laying paths through virgin snow with a depth of snow cover up to 1.2 m and a number of other works," the press service reported.
As explained there, to perform the work, the machine is equipped with a universal bulldozer equipment with a variable position of the blade wings, replaceable working equipment - a hydraulic hammer installed instead of an excavator bucket, traction and auxiliary winches, as well as a set of tools for overcoming mine-explosive barriers. "The UBIM also has a remote-controlled combat module with a 12.7 mm machine gun and a sight that includes television, thermal imaging channels, and a laser rangefinder," the press service said.
In addition, UVZ will show the T-14 Armata tank, as well as various modifications of the T-72 and T-90 tanks, which are currently in service with the Russian army and several dozen other countries of the world, can be seen in other expositions of the Army-2023 forum.
