Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation: exercises "Ocean Shield - 2023" have begun in the Baltic Sea
The naval exercise "Ocean Shield – 2023" began in the waters of the Baltic Sea. This was announced on Wednesday, August 2, according to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The exercises will be held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. It is planned to involve about 6 thousand military personnel, more than 30 warships and boats, 20 support vessels, as well as three dozen naval aviation aircraft.
"During the exercise, measures will be worked out to protect sea communications, transport troops and military cargo, as well as to defend the seashore. In total, it is planned to perform more than 200 combat exercises, including with the practical use of weapons," the report says.
In addition, in the course of the exercises, the readiness of the Navy forces to defend the Russian Federation and the coherence of the work of headquarters at various levels for the management of troops will be checked.
The ministry added that after completing the training, the ships will make inter-fleet crossings to permanent bases, and the aircraft will return to their airfields.
A day earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that three unmanned boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) unsuccessfully tried to attack patrol ships of the Black Sea Fleet "Sergey Kotov" and "Vasily Bykov". The vessels performed tasks to control shipping in the southwestern part of the Black Sea.
Earlier, on July 25, according to the Ministry of Defense, the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet "Sergey Kotov" destroyed two unmanned boats with standard weapons. There were no casualties as a result of an unsuccessful attempt to attack the enemy.
