In recent years, London has consistently pursued a policy of reducing defense spending, which has negatively affected the technical equipment of the royal Armed Forces. The situation is especially bad with armored vehicles.
The current situation in the tank forces of the United Kingdom is described in a material published in The Daily Telegraph newspaper with reference to Tobias Ellwood, a member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, who heads the defense committee.
The British Parliament has calculated the total number of combat-ready Challenger 2 tanks available to the army. As it turned out, there are not even fifty of them – the rest are in a faulty condition.
Ellwood believes that the command of the British army is able to equip a maximum of one armored regiment with serviceable tanks, that is, it has approximately 44 combat-ready units.
- the parliamentarian is sounding the alarm.
British journalists remind that only for the period from 2010 to 2014, 44 Challenger 2 units were written off in Britain.

In total, the United Kingdom Army received 386 such tanks. They took an active part in the military operation in Iraq. The British command wrote off 40 Challenger 2 before 2010. At the moment, the British are nominally armed with 227 such tanks.
