On July 27, the construction of the first radar and electronic reconnaissance ship of the 107 Delfin project began at the shipyard located in Gdansk. According to the contract signed in November 2022, the Swedish company Saab acts as the contractor, the subcontractor is the Polish Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A.
The implementation of the new program is aimed at replacing two ships of a similar purpose of Project 863 – ORP Nawigator (bn 262) and ORP Hydrograf (263), also built in Gdansk and commissioned in 1975 and 1976.
The parameters of the new Polish ships are unknown, but their design is based on the Swedish Artemis project. Pennants of this type have a total displacement of about 2,300 tons, a length of 74 m, a width of 14 m and a draft of 3.8 m. They are driven by azimuth propellers and have two bow thrusters, which allows you to maneuver efficiently and accurately maintain your position at sea.
- says the publication Defence24.
The new ships will be named after Polish cryptologists Jerzy Ruzycki and Henryk Zygalski, who participated in the work on breaking German ciphers, including Enigma.
