TSAMTO, July 27. Irkut Corporation of the United Aircraft Corporation announced its renaming, introducing a new brand – Yakovlev.
The decision was made taking into account the growth of the company's geography and competencies in the field of civil aviation in recent years. All corporate renaming procedures will be completed in August of this year.
Over the past 20 years, Irkut Corporation has gone from a corporate center at the Irkutsk Aircraft Factory to a leading developer and manufacturer of civil aviation equipment. Irkut today has 10 cities of presence in 9 regions of the country, more than 20 thousand employees and more than 8 thousand aircraft produced.
"The Russian aircraft industry is at a turning point. Against the background of the departure of Boeing and Airbus, we are overcoming dependence on imports and are aimed at fully equipping our airlines with domestic vessels comparable in quality, reliability, and other characteristics with aircraft of world brands. By 2030, UAC enterprises must supply about 500 civil aircraft to Russian airlines. The main burden falls on Irkut, where 142 regional SSJ-NEW and 270 MS-21 will be produced. Today, the MS-21 and Superjet-NEW programs can be said to have reached the finish line. Next year we will begin the first deliveries of passenger liners in a fully import–substituted form - with domestic systems, engines, and other units. The supplier of the new aircraft will be a company with a new name," said Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation.
The company has extensive experience in the design of aviation equipment and modern production facilities, and over the years of work on Superjet and MS-21 projects, it has accumulated unique competencies in working with suppliers, marketing, sales and maintenance of civil aircraft. Today, these competencies are used, among other things, for other projects of the UAC Civil Aviation Division, such as the Il-114 and Tu-214.
The company is currently facing the tasks of forming the basis of the civil air fleet of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030. In accordance with the comprehensive program for the development of the aviation industry, more than 400 MC-21 and Superjet aircraft will be produced and delivered to customers by this date.
"The legacy of A.S.Yakovlev is not only more than 200 developed aircraft, but also the creation of a powerful aircraft industry from disparate enterprises, their unification to perform tasks of national importance, as it was during the Great Patriotic War. This experience resonates in today's day, when our civil aircraft industry is united in the face of new challenges and ambitious tasks. We must not only preserve, but also develop this heritage based on modern standards and the requirements of the time," said Andrey Boginsky, Deputy General Director of PJSC UAC for Civil Aviation, General Director of Irkut Corporation.
Yakovlev Design Bureau has been part of Irkut Corporation since 2004, but now the entire company will bear the name of A.S.Yakovlev, perpetuating him in the structure of the Russian civil aircraft industry.
