The US Army has been testing new Oshkosh FMTV A2 trucks for four weeks, designed to replace the old FMTVS.

The tests took place at Fort Bliss in Texas. Several versions of FMTV A2 logistics machines have been tested. In particular, the operability of the suspension and the Drive Display Unit system was checked, which allows you to monitor the condition of the vehicle, informing the crew about any malfunctions in real time.

This is a completely new machine compared to the old FMTV

FMTV A2 is an improved version of FMTV trucks, which differs from its predecessor by a different cabin design. The new model has a classic layout, with the engine compartment located in front of the cab. However, there is no longer a power plant under the hood, which is still located under the cab. The elements of the branched engine cooling system are located in front.

The transfer of the cab behind the front axle, in addition to unloading the bridge itself, is also aimed at additional protection of the crew from the effects of mine detonation under the front wheels. In addition, the new version provides the transported soldiers with an increased level of protection and comfort during movement due, among other things, to more effective shock absorption.

Due to the transfer of the engine compartment and an increase in the power of the power plant, as well as the use of an independent suspension, it was possible to increase the load capacity of the new version of the machine.
