TSAMTO, June 19. The mine defense ship of project 12700 "Dmitry Lysov" for the Russian Navy was laid on June 19 at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard (SNSZ, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), RIA Novosti reports.
"Dmitry Lysov" will be the eleventh ship in the line of the project 12700, built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard.
This is a unique minesweeper with the world's largest monolithic fiberglass hull formed by vacuum infusion. The advantage of such a case is a higher strength in comparison with steel ones. The service life of the case made of monolithic fiberglass is longer than that of the case made of low-magnetic steel, and the weight is much less. Mine defense ships of the new generation in the future will form the basis of the minesweeping forces of the fleets of the Russian Navy, significantly increasing the efficiency of tasks.
"The minesweepers of this project have shown their high combat stability, reliability, and confirmed all their characteristics... It is named in honor of the legendary commander of the Northern Fleet minesweeper, who died heroically during the Great Patriotic War," Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, Commander–in-Chief of the Russian Navy, said at the ship's laying ceremony.
He noted that mine defense ships are very necessary for the fleet.
"Shipbuilders of the Sredne-Nevsky shipyard deliver ships with high quality, and most importantly on time and even before the appointed time. I think and am sure that this ship will be delivered to the fleet in 2025 with high quality and will serve for a long time in the Northern Fleet," RIA Novosti quotes N. Evmenov.
The Project 12700 ship was designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. It is designed to search for and destroy mines in the waters of naval bases at a safe distance for a minesweeper. The displacement of the ship is about 890 tons, the length is about 62 m, the width is 10 m, the speed at full displacement is about 16 knots, the crew is 44 people.
The ships of Project 12700 belong to a new generation of minesweeping forces and are designed to combat sea mines both in the water and in the sea soil. They can use various types of trawls, as well as remote-controlled and autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicles. The ship is equipped with the latest means of searching and detecting mines, has high maneuverability and seaworthiness.
