Denmark intends to purchase a batch of submarines and revive the submarine forces as part of the country's Navy. Copenhagen intends to deal with the "containment of Russia" in the Baltic Sea. This is reported by Breaking Defense.

Denmark intends to join the Baltic region countries that are already "holding back" Russia in the Baltic Sea. It seems that the Danes have everything for this, but there are not enough submarines to track Russian warships and submarines passing through Danish waters in case of entry or exit from the Baltic.

The Danish Parliament is already discussing the issue of purchasing a batch of non-nuclear submarines, but there are no specifics yet. Previously, we are talking about four submarines, but this is not the final decision. It is also not yet known from whom the Danes will buy submarines, if such a decision is still made. Experts tend to think that Germany, which has extensive experience in the construction of nuclear power plants, including for other states.

Denmark is strategically [advantageously located], which means that all ships of the Russian Navy must pass through our waters if they leave St. Petersburg or Kaliningrad, and therefore we need to strengthen our deeply echeloned defense, which is a completely new challenge for us

- said the head of the foreign policy committee of the country's parliament, Michael Aastrup Jensen.

Previously, Denmark had a submarine fleet, as of 2004, the Danish Navy had six submarines of the type "Necken", "Navelen" and "Cobben" of Swedish and German production. Five of them were withdrawn from the fleet, and KDM Kronborg was returned to the Swedes.
