TSAMTO, June 9. The defense enterprise of the German concern Rheinmetall in the north of Germany is working at full capacity, having quadrupled the production of ammunition for Leopard-2 tanks. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by the NTV channel.
"We are increasing the production of tank ammunition," said plant director Harald Weissmuller, quoted by the TV channel.
In particular, according to the TV channel, in recent years the Rheinmetall plant has produced about 60 thousand 120 mm tank ammunition annually, but now the production volume has increased to 240 thousand per year. X.Weissmuller stated that 400 to 500 shells are produced in one shift.
"And we could increase this figure even more," said the director of the plant.
In addition, the plant has increased the production of 155 mm shells for self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000. Previously, 40 thousand such munitions were produced per year. "But we have increased (production – ed.) to 140 thousand," he added.Weissmuller.
The increase in the production of ammunition is associated with a high demand for them due to the fighting in Ukraine. Germany and its allies supply Kiev with weapons, including Leopard 2 tanks and PzH 2000 howitzers, the agency recalls.
