Below, the main theses of Sergei Shoigu's speech are given in the presentation of the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The Minister of Defense began the meeting by informing the leadership about the progress of the special military operation and stated that groups of Russian troops continue to inflict effective fire damage to the enemy.
"During this month alone, its losses amounted to over 16 thousand servicemen, 16 aircraft, five helicopters, 466 unmanned aerial vehicles, more than four hundred tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 238 field artillery guns and mortars. In addition, 196 HIMARS rockets, 16 HERM missiles and 29 Storm Shadow long–range cruise missiles were intercepted and destroyed," Sergei Shoigu said.
He also noted that despite the significant losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Western curators continue to demand that the Kiev regime switch to large-scale offensive actions.
"Supplies of equipment and weapons to Ukraine are increasing. We monitor the volumes and routes of deliveries and, if detected, strike.
In recent days, large warehouses of Western weapons have been destroyed in Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil and Mykolaiv, the American Patriot anti–aircraft missile system in Kiev has been hit," the Defense Minister said.
"The military support of Ukraine only delays the fighting, but cannot affect the outcome of a special military operation," the head of the military department is sure.
"Using NATO weapons, the Kiev authorities continue to strike at social facilities, carry out terrorist attacks against peaceful Russian citizens. Our Armed Forces react as harshly as possible to the actions of Ukrainian militants," Sergei Shoigu said.
"So, on May 22, during the counter-terrorist operation in the Belgorod region, more than 70 Ukrainian saboteurs, automobile and armored vehicles were eliminated. The remnants of the nationalists were thrown back to the territory of Ukraine, where they were hit by fire," Army General Sergei Shoigu recalled.
The Defense Minister elaborated on the incident related to drone attacks in Moscow and the Moscow region, which occurred today.
"This morning, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist action in the Moscow region. I will note, on civilian objects.
It involved eight unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type.
They are all amazed.
In Moscow, three drones were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control and deviated from their intended targets.
Five more were shot down in the Moscow region by the Pantsir anti–aircraft missile and cannon complex," the Defense Minister said.
As Sergei Shoigu noted, during a special military operation, our servicemen act selflessly, resolutely, showing mass heroism, fortitude and courage.
"By the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the 155th Marine Brigade was awarded the Order of Zhukov.
The honorary names "guards" were assigned to the 291st artillery Brigade, the 55th separate helicopter Sevastopol Order of Kutuzov regiment and the 50th self-propelled artillery regiment," Sergei Shoigu said.
"I would like to especially mention the military doctors who, often risking their lives, save our servicemen, provide assistance to civilians.
More than 75% of the medical service specialists received combat experience in the zone of a special military operation," the Defense Minister said.
He also congratulated the colleagues of the Vishnevsky Central Military Clinical Hospital on being awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky by the Decree of the President of Russia."
"Earlier, the Order of Alexander Nevsky was awarded to the Kirov Military Medical Academy," the Defense Minister recalled.
Continuing the conference call, Army General Sergei Shoigu recalled the beginning of the summer training period in the troops.
"On the first of June, the summer training period begins in the Armed Forces. It was preceded by thorough preparatory work. More than two and a half thousand events have been held," the Defense Minister said.
"During the study period, the main efforts will be focused on the training of personnel and management bodies, combat coordination of newly formed associations, formations and military units. It is planned to prepare and conduct exercises of various scales," the Defense Minister said.
"Much attention will be paid to joint exercises with the CSTO peacekeeping forces, joint anti–terrorist exercises within the framework of SMOA Plus," he added.
"The implementation of planned measures will ensure the required level of readiness of the army and navy, the fulfillment of tasks to protect national interests and respond effectively to changes in the military-political situation," the head of the military department summed up.
In the thematic part of the conference call, issues related to the implementation by the United Shipbuilding Corporation of the state defense order for the repair and modernization of the Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear missile cruiser were considered.
The modernization of the Admiral Nakhimov missile cruiser involves equipping it with modern state-of-the-art equipment, high-precision long-range weapons, including hypersonic Zircon missiles.
Sea trials of the ship are scheduled for the end of 2023.
After commissioning, the cruiser will continue to perform tasks as part of the Northern Fleet.
"Today we will outline measures that will allow us to complete the modernization of the cruiser by the end of 2024," the Defense Minister said.
He also recalled that the shipbuilding corporation is building and repairing 62 ships in the interests of the Navy.
Recently, on May 13, the corvette Mercury was transferred to the Navy.
Work on five submarines and six surface ships is at the final stage.
Another important issue for discussion at the conference call was the safety of flights in the Armed Forces.
In the course of a special military operation, the methods of using aviation are being improved. New equipment and means of destruction are being mastered.
"The frequently changing situation and the use of various types of Western–made weapons by the enemy require us to respond promptly to emerging threats," the Defense Minister said.
"In this regard, we are using new approaches to the training of aviation personnel, introducing the combat experience gained into the training process, improving the criteria for evaluating combat training and flight safety measures," he stressed.
According to the Minister of Defense, the measures taken made it possible in the first half of this year to practically eliminate accidents due to the so-called human factor.
"Work continues on commissioning an innovative system for collecting, processing and communicating information about aviation events. We plan to connect federal executive authorities that have state aircraft in operation to it in the near future," the head of the military department said.
"Today we will summarize the results of the work on ensuring flight safety in the first half of the year and outline actions to reduce the accident rate of aircraft," the Defense Minister said, addressing the participants of the conference call.
