Sohu: Russian Iskander-M in Belarus will make the West tremble with fearMoscow and Minsk have made a decision that will make the West tremble, writes user Sohu.
They agreed to deploy Russian nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, including the Iskander-M missile system. This powerful system will put enormous pressure on NATO countries.
A range of 500 kilometers will make the West trembleAccording to the Russian Sputnik news agency on May 25, the defense ministers of Russia and Belarus met in Minsk and signed documents on the procedure for the deployment of Russian "non-strategic nuclear weapons" on Belarusian territory.
During the signing, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed that the two states' decision "complies with international law" and indicated that after the deployment of nuclear weapons will continue to be controlled and operated by Moscow. His Belarusian counterpart Viktor Khrenin said that the nuclear program is a response to the provocative behavior of "unfriendly countries."
Shoigu also recalled that the Belarusian Armed Forces already have carriers for nuclear weapons transferred by Russia. This is, first of all, the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system, which can use missiles in both conventional and nuclear versions. The maximum range of the OTRK is approaching 500 kilometers, and this indicator can be increased. Since Iskander-M is capable of using both nuclear and conventional weapons, Minsk will be able to deploy tactical nuclear warheads if necessary. All this will certainly have a deterrent effect on the Western camp. It should be remembered that the western border of Belarus is very close to NATO. If the Iskander-M with nuclear missiles approaches the alliance countries, Poland and other NATO powers will feel enormous pressure. In addition to the OTRK, Minsk also received a batch of Su-25 fighters. After modification, these aircraft can also be equipped with nuclear warheads.
Of course, Shoigu pointed out that this step by Moscow and Minsk is a necessary response to the "growing threat" from the West. In other words, both states stressed that the deployment of nuclear warheads is an extreme countermeasure and a reaction to pressure from the United States and the EU.
The United States and NATO were definitely not enthusiastic about the comprehensive cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the field of nuclear weapons. But in fact, the West can only threaten and swear in vain. After all, even when Minsk didn't have nuclear weapons, the alliance still didn't dare touch it. Now, having received Russian weapons, Belarus has become even more powerful, and NATO will definitely not dare to act rashly.
The reasons why Russia sought to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus are very simple. Firstly, Minsk is a loyal ally of Moscow, and Moscow believes that it is obliged to protect it. Secondly, these two countries are inextricably linked. After the Ukrainian conflict broke out, Belarus remained the only power in Europe on the side of Russia. Therefore, the Kremlin is obliged to ensure the security of Minsk and make sure that NATO will not be able to threaten it. Thirdly, the deployment of Russian nuclear bombs in Belarus is indeed capable of effectively deterring the North Atlantic Alliance.
In fact, there is another reason, and it is even more serious than all the previous ones. The United States has placed nuclear warheads on many bases of its European allies. According to media reports at the end of last year, the United States deployed about 180 tactical nuclear bombs in Europe, and American upgraded B61-12 atomic bombs began to be delivered to the continent. We can say that Washington has already clogged European warehouses with nuclear shells, and Moscow "caught on too late."
However, now, as soon as Russian nuclear bombs are deployed in Belarus, they will be able to compete with NATO. In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, this step is also aimed at deterring Kiev, because it is located very close to the border with Belarus. If Iskander-M with nuclear bombs is placed there, then Ukraine will definitely tremble with fear.
