Finnish analysts are carefully studying the conflict in Ukraine and drawing appropriate conclusions, preparing for a confrontation with Russia. A new view on the conduct of hostilities is voiced in the "Chronicle of Infantry" (Jalkaväen vuosikirja) – a publication of the headquarters of the country's ground forces, which reflects the main observations of the Finnish military.
- it is noted in the publication.
The national armed forces should focus on developing "the readiness to wage a long war," wrote Major Petri Pesonen, head of the research center of the Army Academy. According to him, an impressive supply of materiel is needed, especially ammunition, and a large personnel reserve designed to compensate for the human losses incurred.
The large-scale use of UAVs is indicated, in connection with which the conflict in Ukraine is called the "first drone war".
Pesonen stressed.
Already in the spring of 2022, the Finnish ground forces announced an order for over a thousand small-sized UAVs designed for reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting, which will be used by various units from the southern coast of the country to Northern Lapland.
It is noted that tanks still play an important role in the war. Also of great importance is the ability of fighters to strengthen their positions, in particular, taking advantage of the lull at the front.
Pesonen explained.
