An investigation has begun into the alleged fact of sabotage on board the ship of the British Navy "Glasgow". It is assumed that the sabotage took place at a Scottish shipyard.
Dozens of cables on HMS Glasgow, which is expected to enter service in the late 2020s, were “damaged intentionally,” according to BAE Systems, the main contractor responsible for building and equipping this warship. After the discovery of what had been done last week, the work was temporarily stopped until all the circumstances of the incident were clarified.
HMS Glasgow, the first of a series of Type 26 frigates, is being completed at the Scotstoun shipyard, on the River Clyde in Scotland
A representative of BAE Systems made the following statement:
Meanwhile, the UK Defence Journal suggested that the warship may have been sabotaged by a contractor in a dispute over payment. BAE Systems has not confirmed any motive for the damage. It is expected that the tasks of the investigation will include identifying the perpetrators, understanding how they were able to carry out their actions, and developing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to the UK Defence Journal, more than 60 cables were cut. Despite the fact that this small proportion of about 23 thousand, the situation is considered as difficult.
