The special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine has become a large-scale test of the combat vehicles assigned to it for the Russian army. Often, the fighters participating in the SVO carry out the modernization of equipment with their own hands or with the forces of frontline workshops, using improvised materials at the same time.
MT-LB armored personnel carriers, despite numerous advantages, such as high cross-country capability, low silhouette or ample opportunities for modernization, have a significant disadvantage in the form of weak reservation. To eliminate it, the Russian military decided to take the initiative and improved the protection of the machine by an artisanal method.
The networks feature footage of an improved MT-LB. He received improvised mounted armor in the form of tracks from the T-72 tank, which were welded to the turret, the upper part of the hull and formed a so-called "skirt" in the area of the tracks.

Additionally, a paired 12.7 mm DShK machine gun was installed instead of the basic armament in the form of a 7.62 mm PKT. At this point, the roof was cut off so that the fighter could fire from the new weapons, being partially covered by armor. The firing position itself is slightly elevated, which probably allows you to work effectively when shooting from a trench or lowland.
