Ukraine has made several attempts to create a heavy infantry fighting vehicle based on the T-64 tank, but they were not crowned with success. Currently, a new attempt has been made, the developers plan to create a new heavy infantry fighting vehicle based on the Soviet T-62 tank.
Ukrainian volunteers from an unnamed organization decided to develop a heavy infantry fighting vehicle, since state design bureaus and specialized armored enterprises are not coping. As a base, unlike the projects already available in Ukraine on the T-64 chassis, enthusiasts decided to use the Soviet T-62, as stated - "trophy".
The originality of the design of the future BMP does not differ, the volunteers simply copied the Algerian version of the heavy tank support vehicle, created on the basis of the same T-62 with the installed Berezhok module from the BMP-2M. This machine in the Algerian army performs the functions of BMPT. So the Ukrainians did not go far and are trying to attach a tower from a Russian BMP with a 30-mm cannon to the body of a Soviet tank.
The name of this BMP has already been invented - "Punisher". True, there is no landing compartment in the first copy, but it should appear in the second one. The creators plan to find a second similar tank and remake it for the transportation of troops.
- said one of the participants of this project.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian volunteers are developing a long-range ground-to-ground missile with a range of 140 km for the AFU. It is assumed that the entire assembly of the new ammunition will take place at the level of garage workshops.
