The Vietnamese leadership is gradually modernizing the country's armed forces, which continue to mainly use Soviet heritage and American trophies.

As indicated in the publication Defense Studies, at the end of March, South Korea hosted a Vietnamese delegation headed by the Minister of Defense. During their visit, the officials drew attention to the K9A1 self-propelled artillery installation and the K10 TZM attached to it, visiting the 7th artillery brigade, in which they are in service, and production facilities.

Vietnam is very interested in cooperation with Hanwha [the manufacturer of this equipment]. The Minister of Defense of Vietnam was to hold talks with his leadership on the purchase of K9 artillery installations and industrial cooperation between the countries

- it is noted in the publication.

Currently, the Vietnamese ground forces have numerous artillery systems in service, but most of them are outdated. The units are dominated by various types of towed howitzers, such as Soviet 122-mm M-30, American 105-mm M101 or Soviet/Chinese 130-mm field guns M-46 / Type 59. The only types of self-propelled guns are 2S1 "Carnation" and 2S3 "Acacia". In other branches of the armed forces, they are supplemented by 85-mm ACS ASU-85 and Su-100. In addition to them, there are also wheeled artillery systems in the form of PTH05-VN15 locally developed, i.e. towed 105 mm M101 howitzers mounted on Ural trucks.
