The promising American "Doomsday" aircraft, known as the E-XX, will be deprived of communication with ground-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and strategic bombers. The Drive writes about this with reference to a representative of Northrop Grumman Corporation.
The publication notes that the E-XX, which will be created to replace the current E-6B Mercury, which is at the disposal of the US Navy, will be able to communicate exclusively with nuclear submarines equipped with ballistic missiles. Unlike the promising one, the aging aircraft is able to communicate not only with sea-based ballistic missiles, but also with ground-based ICBMs and strategic bombers.
According to The Drive, the development of the E-XX does not involve the use of new technologies.
In April, Defense News reported that the largest American military-industrial corporations Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have teamed up to participate in the tender for the creation of the "Doomsday" aircraft.
In the same month last year, Lockheed Martin presented the concept of a new EC-130J Take Charge And Move Out (TACAMO) control and communication aircraft — a manned "doomsday" aircraft.
