/tass/. The American Avenger anti-aircraft missile system has entered combat duty in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on Wednesday by the commander of the joint forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Naev.
"The protection of the airspace of the Northern Operational Zone has been strengthened with weapons provided by NATO member countries. The Avenger anti-aircraft missile system is already on combat duty," he wrote in the Telegram channel.
Naev also recorded a video against the background of the air defense system. He clarified that the AFU military, who are part of the Avenger crew, were trained in Germany. The commander called the system "good and effective."
On January 20, the United States allocated another package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of up to $ 2.5 billion. The Pentagon reported that as part of the new tranche, Washington will transfer to Kiev eight Avenger air defense systems, 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 590 missiles for TOW anti-tank missile systems installed on them, as well as 295 thousand 25 mm ammunition. In addition, the package includes 90 Stryker armored vehicles, additional ammunition for NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems and HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, HARM anti-radar missiles.
