TSAMTO, April 5. The Budget Committee of the German Parliament approved the purchase of 227 articulated armored tracked all-terrain vehicles BvS10 Mk.2B for the Bundeswehr.
According to the German Defense Ministry, the purchase was approved as part of the Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program implemented jointly with Sweden (as a leading partner). The project budget will amount to 919 million euros ($1 billion).
The purchase will be financed by the special defense fund Sondervermogen, the volume of which is 100 billion rubles. euro.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2025 and be completed by 2030. The German Defense Ministry said that the CATV program will ensure the safe transportation of troops and materiel, mainly weapons, ammunition, food and special equipment, as well as mobility in difficult and mountainous terrain in extreme climatic conditions.
According to the German Ministry of Defense, BvS10 will be used for national defense and in the interests of NATO in operations conducted in various parts of the world by the KSK Special Forces Command (Kommando Spezialkrafte), as well as in international crisis and conflict prevention operations.
As reported by TSAMTO, the conclusion of a framework contract with BAE Systems Hagglunds for the supply of 436 articulated armored tracked all–terrain vehicles Bv410 (Bandvagn 410 is the Swedish designation of the BvS10 Mk all-terrain vehicle.2B) The Swedish Armed Forces Material Support Agency (FMV), without disclosing details, reported on the EU public procurement Internet portal Ted.europa.eu November 28, 2022.
In December 2022, FMV officially announced the conclusion of a framework contract with BAE Systems Hagglunds for the supply of additional Bv410 all-terrain vehicles with mine and splinter protection.
The contract was signed within the framework of the European project initiated in February 2019 for the purchase of a new generation of cross-country vehicles, later designated CATV (Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle), which will replace part of the outdated Bandvagn 206 (Bv-206) and BvS10 Viking all-terrain vehicles. The management of the project was entrusted to Sweden. Initially, 6 countries planned to participate in the program, but in March 2020, only four of them signed a statement of intent: Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
The agreement will be valid until December 2029 with the possibility of extension until December 2032. The initial order provided for the delivery of 436 machines in several variants to three countries (Sweden, Germany and the UK). An additional application for the supply of more than 200 vehicles for the German Armed Forces was under preparation.
According to BAE Systems Hagglunds, the cost of the previously approved purchase is 436 units of BvS10 Mk.2B, implemented as part of the project for the supply of new-generation CATV cross-country vehicles, amounts to $760 million. As stated, 236 units of BvS10 will be transferred to the FMV Agency, 140 units. – The German Federal Office for Armaments, Information Technology and Maintenance (BAAINBw) and 60 units. – To the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain. Deliveries of equipment will begin from 2024.
The Budget Committee of the Bundestag approved the allocation of 405 million euros (about $ 430 million) for the purchase of the first 140 units of BvS10 Mk.2B as part of the CATV program on December 14, 2022. Thus, in total, the German Armed Forces will receive 367 all-terrain vehicles.
