Tallinn. April 5. INTERFAX - Spain's NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs) will arrive in Estonia on Wednesday, which will go on combat duty this week.
"We have signed the first agreement with the Spaniards, it will last four months. What will we do next? This issue is currently being discussed in NATO. Of course, we would like to see the same system that we currently have with fighter jets," Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur told Estonian Broadcasting ERR.
He noted that Estonia wants to achieve the rotation of air defense systems from NATO allies, just as the rotation of fighters guarding the airspace of the Baltic States is carried out.
NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems will arrive at the port of Paldiski. The personnel and the commander of the Spanish contingent are already stationed at the Amari Air Base.
The tender period for the purchase of air defense systems by Estonia will end in a month. So far it is known that more than five proposals have been received. Public procurement is carried out jointly with Latvia.
According to the plans of the Ministry of Defense, anti-aircraft missile systems should enter service with the Defense Forces by 2025.
