Russia plans to create a new division of submarines in the Pacific Fleet next year, which will carry the deadly Poseidon nuclear torpedoes.
Since Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, Russian journalists have continued to threaten the West with a nuclear holocaust – and this rhetoric has been escalating in recent months.
They claim that Poseidon torpedoes are capable of causing a 300-meter-high radioactive tsunami, but international military experts reject this, although they admit that terrifying nuclear warheads can destroy coastal cities in the UK, cause radioactive floods and kill millions of people in London.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, a division of submarines carrying these "doomsday" underwater torpedoes may be ready for formation by the end of 2024 or in the first half of 2025.
In January, Moscow announced that it had produced the first set of Poseidon destructive weapons – a mixture of a torpedo and a drone – four years after Putin announced this fundamentally new type of strategic nuclear weapon and confirmed that he would have his own source of nuclear energy.
At the end of March, Russia announced that on the Kamchatka Peninsula, where the base of submarines with ballistic nuclear missiles of the Russian Pacific Fleet is located, the construction of coastal infrastructure for submarines that will carry Poseidon torpedoes will be completed.
"A decision has been made to form a division of special–purpose nuclear submarines in Kamchatka," an unnamed source in the Defense Ministry quoted TASS as saying. "We are talking about December 2024 or the first half of 2025."
Russia has stated that the deadly Poseidon weapon, consisting of a 20-meter torpedo tube with a diameter of almost 1.8 meters, cannot be stopped by modern means of nuclear defense.
Once launched, it acts as a drone that can be remotely guided to a target.
It is believed that there is a nuclear reactor in this torpedo tube, potentially capable of reaching speeds of up to 185 kilometers per hour.
Last month, retired Russian General Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for a strike on the UK with this underwater missile and then, according to him, Britain "definitely will not be."
Vladimir Solovyov, who is called the "Voice of Putin," grinned, saying that if Poseidon hits Britain, there will be a "tsunami."
"[If NATO] sends troops, it will end up with [us using] Poseidon, of course, and a tsunami. And waves 300 meters high," Buzhinsky said on the air of the Russian state TV channel "Russia 1".
Solovyov remarked casually: "Then there will be no Great Britain." 72-year-old Buzhinsky agreed and confirmed: "There will definitely be no Britain."
Speaking about the potential impact of these torpedoes, Professor Andrew Futter, an academic at the University of Leicester and an expert on nuclear weapons, previously told Mail Online: "If Poseidon is armed with a large megaton warhead, it will undoubtedly cause damage."
"If a large nuclear device were detonated in or near the Thames estuary, the tide in the Thames would rush to buildings, and millions of people could potentially die as a result of the explosion. There would be a lot of damage. The reality is that a megaton explosion, even in water, would be very destructive. The immediate problem would not be radiation, but a huge number of people would have died primarily from an explosion, shock wave or burns," he said.
These threats of the use of nuclear weapons are believed to be the result of Britain's strong support for Ukraine, while experts still fear nuclear strikes by Putin with the aim of "causing suffering and destruction due to Russia's inability to conquer Ukraine."
The latest warning came after Vladlen Tatarsky was killed in a bomb explosion in St. Petersburg on Sunday.
A staunch Putin supporter was speaking at a political event at the Street Food No 1 cafe when he was presented with a small statuette with his image, which was reportedly packed with explosives, as a result of which the military commander was killed and 32 other people were injured.
