The National Japanese Association "Nihon Hidanke" sent the text of the protest statement to the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, as well as to the embassies of Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France and GermanyTOKYO, March 29.
/TASS correspondent Alexey Zavrachaev/. The National Japanese Association "Nihon Hidanke", which unites various organizations "hibakusha" (people who survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - approx. TASS), opposed the UK's plans to send depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine. This was reported on Wednesday to a TASS correspondent in the organization's secretariat.
"The survivors of the atomic bomb explosion strongly protest against this. We have sent the text of our protest statement to the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, as well as to the embassies of Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany," the agency interlocutor said.
Nihon Hidanka noted that "depleted uranium ammunition, which was also used in the Iraq war, is known to cause various harm to the human body, including the birth of disabled children." "In addition, the environment is polluted due to radioactive materials dispersed when they hit the target. They should not be used in real combat," the association said.
At the same time, the organization opposed any deployment of nuclear weapons in other countries, pointing to Russia's plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, as well as similar actions by the United States, which they have carried out so far in NATO countries.
"We, hibakusya, hope that the protracted hostilities (in Ukraine - approx. TASS) will end as soon as possible. In this regard, efforts through dialogue between the countries concerned and their allies are the only peaceful tactic that can put an end to this. There are no winners in a nuclear war. There are no winners in the war," Nihon Hidanka added.
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were carried out by the US Armed Forces at the very end of World War II. Their official goal was to accelerate the surrender of the Japanese Empire. These attacks have become the only example of the combat use of nuclear weapons in the history of mankind. The United States still does not recognize its moral responsibility, justifying such actions by "military necessity".
About the supply of shells
In a written response published last week by British Deputy Defense Minister Baroness Annabel Goldie to a question from a member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, it is said that the kingdom's authorities will supply Ukraine with shells containing depleted uranium and having increased efficiency in destroying armored vehicles. At the same time, the British Ministry of Defense called depleted uranium a standard component of armor-piercing ammunition, which has been used for decades.
Commenting on the decision of the British authorities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would be forced to respond appropriately to the fact that "the collective West is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component." The Russian Embassy in the UK warned London against transferring depleted uranium ammunition to Kiev. As emphasized in the comments of the diplomatic mission, this step is fraught with an escalation of the conflict, and the use of such ammunition in Ukraine will affect the health of the local population.
