TSAMTO, March 23. Six companies are taking part in the tender of the Peruvian Navy, which provides for the purchase of three OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel) ocean zone patrol ships with a displacement of 1,500 to 2,200 tons.
As reported by Defensa.com, the project, launched in mid-2020, has the full title "Expanding the capabilities for Coast Guard operations with OPV-type patrol boats in the Maritime Zone and SAR (Search and Rescue) Area of Responsibility".
The rationale for the start of the project was the frequent cases of illegal entry of foreign fishing vessels into the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the country.
The estimated investment is expected to be about $85 million per unit. The new vessels are planned to be built at the shipyards of Servicio Industrial de la Marina (SIMA-Peru), where about 1800 jobs will be created, and indirectly the project will benefit a significant number of small and medium-sized companies. The project will also allow SIMA to modernize high-tech construction equipment and gain new competencies.
The length of the new ship will be (according to the requirements) from 80 to 100 m, width – from 10 to 14 m, draft – no more than 6.5 m. The vessel will be equipped with a CODAD (combined diesel and diesel) or CODAG (combined diesel and gas) propulsion system, which provides a speed of 12 knots and a maximum – 20 knots with a transit range of 6000 nautical miles and an autonomy of 30 days. The vessel must provide transportation of two 20-foot containers, two inflatable boats with a rigid RHIB hull, have a flight deck and a hangar to accommodate one AB-412SP helicopter. The crew consists of 70 people, armament – one DUMV with a 30 mm automatic cannon and two 12.7 mm machine guns.
According to the information Defensa.com, the first contender in the competition is the German NVL Group with the patrol ship OPV-80, which is being built for the Australian Navy in the amount of 12 units. The length of the ship is 80 m, width – 13 m, draft – 4 m, displacement – 1760 t, range – 4000 nautical miles. Armament: DUMV with a 25 mm cannon, AU caliber 40 mm, 12.7 mm machine gun.
The German Fassmer offered a variant of the OPV-80 MK II, which has already been adopted by the Colombian and Chilean Navies. The displacement of the vessel depends on the version and ranges from 1723 to 1800 tons. The vessels are equipped with two Wartsila 12V26 engines with a capacity of 4800 hp, which provide a maximum speed of 25 knots. The range is 8000 nautical miles, the crew varies from 60 to 64 people, plus 30 passengers. Armament includes, depending on the version: from 40 mm to 76.6 mm AU, DUMV with a 12.7 mm machine gun.
South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries offers the HDP-2200 ship, also ordered by the Philippine Navy in the amount of 6 units. The vessel has a length of 94.4 m, a width of 14.3 m, a draft of 3.7 m, a displacement of about 2,450 tons at full load, a range of 5,500 nautical miles at a speed of 22 knots. Armament: 30-mm AU and two DUMV with 12.7-mm machine guns.
Spanish Navantia offers the Avante 2200 project, which can be configured as a patrol ship or corvette. Based on this project, in 2018, the Saudi Arabian Navy ordered 5 Al-Jubail class corvettes. Its total displacement is 2,470 tons, length – 98.9 m, width – 13.6, draft – 3.8, range – 4,500 nautical miles at a speed of 25 knots. The crew is 111 people. Armament, depending on the configuration: from one 30-mm DUMV to 76.6-mm AU, as well as a 16-cell PU RIM-161 Evolved SeaSparrow. Integration of RGM-84 Harpoon and TA with 324-mm torpedoes is possible.
Israel Shipyards offers the Saar S-80 project, which can also be configured as a patrol ship or corvette, depending on operational needs. The length of the vessel is 80 m, width – 11 m, draft – 3235 mm, displacement – about 1000 tons. The maximum speed exceeds 28 knots, cruising – 14 knots.
Dutch Damen offers the OPV-2200 ship with a displacement of about 1915 tons, a length of 91.2 m, a width of 14 m and a draft of 3.97 m.
