Expert: the fallen US drone is of interest from different points of view, even museumSIMFEROPOL, March 16 - RIA Novosti.
An American drone that fell into the Black Sea in the event of its recovery could be of interest from different points of view, and in the future even become a museum exhibit, said Sergey Gorbachev, director of the Institute of CIS Countries in Sevastopol, captain of the 1st rank of the reserve, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said that Russia would try to get the remains of an American drone that fell into the Black Sea.
"Raising the wreckage of the drone will allow, firstly, to make important observations and, quite possibly, quite interesting conclusions about its materials and design. If we are lucky, more serious information may fall into our hands. For example, about fuel, as well as parts or blocks of equipment – electronic sensors, some parts, boards or something with the presence of some information that will allow us to draw conclusions about the tasks, functions, capabilities of the drone, tactics of application and work practice. In general, the wreckage is of interest from different points of view. Ultimately, they may even become a museum exhibit in the foreseeable future," Gorbachev said.
According to him, the Black Sea Fleet has all the technical capabilities to collect the debris that is on the surface and raise those parts that are at depth.
"The main thing is to find them. The search is quite real. We have serious forces to make such a search and ascent. This will be our war booty, we can say, our trophy. This practice is, in fact, ubiquitous, characteristic of the fleets of all countries, including in peacetime," Gorbachev stressed.
The Russian Defense Ministry earlier reported that on the morning of March 14, an American MQ-9 drone with its transponders turned off violated the boundaries of the area of the temporary use of airspace over the Black Sea. According to the ministry, the UAV was moving towards the Russian border in Crimea, Russian fighter jets were lifted into the air to identify the intruder. Due to the abrupt maneuvering, the drone went into an uncontrolled flight with a loss of altitude and fell into the water. The Russian fighters did not come into contact with the MQ-9, did not use airborne weapons and returned safely to the home airfield, the Russian Defense Ministry stressed.
