The US Navy has the Jimmy Carter nuclear submarine of the Seawolf project, which is specially built to perform sabotage tasks. Vladimir Ashik, a Russian hydraulic astronaut, tells about this in a column for Izvestia dedicated to the undermining of the Nord Streams gas pipelines.
"It seems to be specially designed for mining and undermining any underwater objects. No country in the world has such boats anymore and does not build them," the specialist assures.
According to him, the submarine is "equipped with specialized sonar and television complexes for searching for objects on the ground." In particular, in the middle part of the American submarine there is a compartment with sabotage equipment, including remote-controlled devices and a decompression chamber.
"Only such a submarine can imperceptibly deliver explosive devices to any point of the World Ocean and install it on an underwater object that is insufficiently guarded," the author concludes.
In April 2019, a special-purpose nuclear submarine of Project 09852 Belgorod was launched at Sevmash, which will become the first full-time carrier of uninhabited underwater vehicles Poseidon.
