TSAMTO, March 14. The US Department of Defense, within the framework of the draft budget for 2024, requested a record amount for the purchase of weapons. As RIA Novosti reports, this follows from the draft budget of the White House for the needs of the Ministry of Defense.
"The budget provides for the allocation of $ 170 billion for procurement, which will be a record in the history of the United States," the publication says.
The Pentagon's draft budget also provides for record investments in research, development and testing of weapons in the amount of $ 145 billion.
In addition, the US military department has requested $30.6 billion for the purchase of ammunition and missiles (this is $5.8 billion more than the amount allocated last year).
From the total amount under the article missiles and ammunition are planned to be allocated for purchase:
- tactical missiles – $17.3 billion.;
- strategic missiles – $7.3 billion.;
- ammunition – 5.6 billion dollars.
According to the document, the estimated total cost of purchasing 28 MLRS HIMARS will be $ 179.23 million. In addition, the Pentagon requested funds for 541 Javelin anti-tank systems worth almost $ 200 million, funds for 5,000 guided missiles worth about $886.3 million, as well as financing for the purchase of 366 MLRS missiles worth about $ 10.3 million.
In addition, $600 million. it will be directed to technological development and more than one billion more – to ensure the production base of military equipment.
Washington will spend $6.2 billion. for the construction of the second Columbia-class submarine with ballistic missiles. Investments for the modernization of the country's nuclear complex will amount to $37.7 billion.
The Pentagon has also requested $5.3 billion for the development of the program and the purchase of the B-21 strategic bomber.
Under the expenditure item, within the framework of investments in the amount of $ 11 billion, the purchase of 24 hypersonic missiles is provided for the supply of high-flying precision weapons.
As noted by the head of the ministry, Lloyd Austin, whose words are quoted in the publication, "deterrence remains a cornerstone in the defense of the United States."
