TSAMTO, March 13. The issue of the Russian Navy base in Sudan is under consideration, the Sudanese Ambassador to Russia Mohammed Elgazali Eltizhani Sirraja said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"This agreement must be ratified by the legislative body of the Republic of Sudan. If you follow the news, you know that we do not have an authorized body that could sign such an agreement. Therefore, the issue is under consideration, including it depends on the formation of a legislative body in Sudan and its ratification by it," Sirraja said.
He added that the issue of the format of the database should be discussed by expert representatives of Sudan and Russia. The head of the diplomatic mission also said that the political crisis in the country may be resolved in the future.
"I think this is possible in the near future: the civilian forces are already interacting with each other, negotiating, and this resulted in the framework agreements signed in December last year," Sirraja stressed.
As the agency reminds, earlier, following a visit to Sudan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the agreement between the Russian Federation and Sudan on the establishment of a logistics point for the Russian Navy in Sudan is now in the process of ratification.
Earlier, the Sudanese military leader, commander-in-chief of the armed forces of this country, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said in an interview with RIA Novosti after the dissolution of the authorities as a result of the coup that Sudan would continue to implement agreements on the establishment of a Russian military base in the country.
The agreement to create a Russian Navy point in Sudan became known in November 2020. According to the document, the maximum number of personnel of the Naval station, whose work is carried out by the forces and means of the Russian side, will not exceed 300 people. No more than four Russian ships will be able to be there at the same time.
