China has achieved leadership in the field of research of advanced and critical technologies, bypassing the United States and other Western countries, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), commissioned by the US State Department.
According to the report, the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranks first or second in research in the field of 44 types of technologies monitored by ASPI specialists. Including in the field of defense, space, robotics, energy, environment, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, advanced materials and quantum technologies.
ASPI researchers also pointed out the risk that China will become a monopolist in the field of synthetic biology, the production of batteries for electric vehicles, 5G technologies and nanoproduction.
It is indicated that the PRC is increasing research with the help of knowledge acquired abroad — a fifth of the leading Chinese specialists were trained in the countries of the Five Eyes Alliance.
Despite the surrender of a number of positions, the United States retains leadership in research in the field of high-performance and quantum computing, small satellites and vaccines.
