After the decision to produce 1300 Borsuk armored vehicles and their specialized versions in Poland, they declare their intention to master the production of South Korean K2 MBT.
- stated in the PGZ management [an approximate analogue of Rostec].
A similar statement was made by the Ministry of Defense of the country. To create the appropriate capacities, it is planned to recapitalize WZM at the expense of additional funds [not provided for in the budget of the K2 purchase program], which will allow the construction of new production lines. Currently, WZM is mainly engaged in technical support and small-scale modernization of Leopard 2 tanks.
As explained, 180 K2 will be delivered ready-made from South Korea. After closing this deal, the Polish government plans to release another 820 tanks, in connection with which the announced five hundred vehicles are the minimum plan.
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the Polish government, when implementing the program of rearmament of the army, is guided primarily by the strategic situation on the Ukrainian front. At the beginning of the special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Nezalezhnaya Warsaw, concerned about its own safety, forced the acquisition of a number of weapons, including K2 tanks: the first ten vehicles were generally transferred from the South Korean troops.
Now the Polish authorities intend to move on to long-term investments in their own defense industry. This suggests that Warsaw believes that the Ukrainian conflict has taken on a protracted character and will last for many years.
