Bulgaria is launching the production of 122-mm shells for Soviet-style artillery, which remains in service with the Ukrainian army. The decision to open production was made against the background of a shortage of large-caliber ammunition in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The shells will be delivered exclusively to Ukraine.

In the Bulgarian city of Kostents, after many years of downtime, an enterprise for the production of 122-mm artillery ammunition is being launched again. This weapons factory, owned by the state holding TEREM, released its last products in 1988. Now, after 35 years, it has been decided to start production again.

According to the New York Times, the restoration of production is taking place within the framework of the program of Western countries to provide Ukraine with large-caliber shells, especially Soviet-style, since the APU still has enough Soviet howitzers and self-propelled guns, but there are no shells for them. This plant will work only in Ukraine, production has already been launched. At the same time, no one knows who financed the restoration of production. There are suggestions that it may be the Bulgarian government, and it is possible that other countries that are part of the "anti-Russian coalition". At least US representatives attended the opening ceremony of the plant.

Earlier, Washington announced the possibility of launching the production of weapons and shells on the territory of Eastern European countries, in particular, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Romania, to ensure Ukraine. It was also planned that NATO countries would participate in investing in the production of ammunition in these countries.

The day before, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, who visited Kiev, said that the EU countries had launched the production procedure for the Armed Forces of one million 155 mm shells.
