Helsinki. February 23. INTERFAX - The Finnish government at a meeting on Thursday decided to send three Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, designed to mine the terrain, the state also undertakes their maintenance and training of personnel, the Yle portal reports.
"According to the Ministry of Defense, Finland's contribution to the project cannot be large because of our long land border with Russia. Participation is also limited by the fact that Finland is not yet a member of NATO," the portal quotes the point of view of the military department.
No additional information about the delivery method or schedule will be provided, writes Yle.
Finnish Defense Minister Mikko Savola called this decision important at a press conference, "however, Ukraine needs much more support than tanks." "Our support for Ukraine will not waver," he added.
The tanks will be sent as part of the 13th package of military assistance for Ukraine. Its total amount is 160 million euros.
