The American company Lockheed Martin will send a launcher for hypersonic missiles, being developed in the interests of the US Navy, for testing in 2024. This is reported in the company itself.
At the moment, development work is being carried out in the United States within the framework of the contract concluded with the Navy. This contract provides, among other things, for the creation of new launchers for stealth destroyers of the Zumwalt class, the cells of the launchers on board of which were not suitable in size for the hypersonic weapons being developed.
Stephen Lane, Vice President of the HSWS (Hypersonic Strike Weapon Systems) project, confirmed the information that the contract amount is $ 1.2 billion.
Lane:
According to him, the company has been developing a launcher for hypersonic sea-based missiles for more than a year.
Lane:
Earlier, American Vice Admiral John Wolf, who heads the fleet's Strategic Systems Directorate, said that a compressed air module would be required for the launcher to work in order to fire a rocket at a high altitude to reduce the likelihood of a fire on the deck when the hypersonic engine is turned on. The American company mentioned above implements this principle.
