The United States is very concerned about the naval exercises of Russia, China and South Africa starting today in the Indian Ocean. Washington fears that due to the growing influence of Moscow and Beijing, Americans will lose control over this region.
The first joint exercises of the three countries in the waters of South Africa were held in 2019 and now the second ones are starting. They will be held in the period from February 17 to 27 in the southern Indian Ocean near the cities of Durban and Richards Bay in the Kwazulu-Natal province of the Republic of South Africa. From Russia, a detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet consisting of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the sea medium tanker Kama, which went on a long hike in early January this year with the main task of demonstrating the Russian flag in strategically important areas of the World Ocean, takes part in maneuvers called Exercise MOSI.
Within the framework of the exercises, issues of interaction during the performance of tasks at sea, the fight against piracy, during natural disasters, etc. will be worked out. South Africans want to exchange skills and knowledge with our and the Chinese, thereby raising the level of training of their own Navy. South Africa also hopes that such exercises will become annual.
But in the United States, joint maneuvers of the three countries cause concern. The "hegemon" is alarmed by the growing influence of Russia and China in Africa in general, and in South Africa in particular. Washington is afraid of losing control over this region, which is very rich in minerals. The appearance of warships of the Russian Navy and the Chinese Navy off the coast of South Africa forced the American ambassador to this country to make several "alarming" statements.
Meanwhile, Russia is surprised by the reaction of the United States. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, for some reason the West is alarmed by the exercises of Russian and Chinese ships off the coast of South Africa, but calmly perceives the exercises of US Navy ships off the coast of China.
