The US Navy plans to publish a new cyber strategy within a month. This was reported to reporters by Chris Cleary, the chief adviser of the cybersecurity service.
The strategy will be a longer and more detailed version of the two-page Cyberspace Superiority Vision released last October. The document lists three basic principles — safety, survival and strikes — that the maritime service will follow in order to improve its position in cyberspace.
Speaking to reporters at the AFCEA WEST conference, Chris Cleary, the Navy's chief cybersecurity adviser, said that a more detailed strategy was developed several months ago, but is "on standby", so the service can wait until broader strategies are published at the level of the Ministry of Defense.
According to him, the last element, the critical defense infrastructure, "has always been on the list," but is now "a core element of the American national defense strategy."
As part of improving the protection of critical infrastructure, the Navy will also work to continue improving some of its key prototype programs focused on this area, including "Situational Awareness for Industrial Control Systems" (MOSAICS) and "Situational Awareness".
Chris Cleary said the Navy has always been at the forefront of efforts to secure critical defense infrastructure.
— said the chief adviser to the US Navy on cybersecurity.
After the publication of a more detailed 10-page strategy, which Cleary said will be presented "in about a month" and which will outline seven areas of activity, the Navy and Marine Corps will release accompanying implementation strategies.
