Hanshahri: Mi-28NM “Night Superhot” is called the best Russian helicopterFor the first time, the Mi-28 took off from the ground in 1982.
The helicopter was finally put into service by the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2006, after a long period of testing that lasted almost 26 years. The authors of "Hamshahri" tell the readers of the publication the details.
In this regard, we propose to get acquainted with a relatively new modification of the Russian attack helicopter, which has great combat capabilities: we are talking about the Mi-28 helicopter. Mi-28 – 5- a bladed offensive attack helicopter equipped with two turboshaft engines with a capacity of 2,200 horsepower and capable of operating in all weather conditions.
The Mi-28 was finally put into the service of the VKS (then the Air Force) Russia in 2006, after a long period of testing, which lasted almost 26 years. As a result, the Russian Air Force received a new generation attack helicopter capable of also solving the tasks of delivering air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. The 5-blade main rotor is mounted on top, along the widest part of the helicopter section, while the short, wide and conical wings, as well as the armament carrier, are also mounted along the widest section, but on the back of it. Two turboshaft engines are installed in the nacelles next to the upper part of the fuselage, so that the exhaust flows are directed downward. Its body is narrow and deviant to both the nose and tail. The helicopter, which has broad offensive capabilities, is itself very well protected from external attacks: the Mi-28 has a fully armored cockpit, including also the windshield, and can thus withstand bullet impacts in the range from 7.62 to 12.7 mm, as well as 20 mm fragments.
The main armament of the Mi-28 helicopter is a 30-mm SHIPUNOV2A42 cannon with 300 rounds of ammunition. This gun, which is mounted under the bow, is essentially a weapon used by infantrymen fighting on the BMP-2 armored personnel carrier. Up to 8 air-to-air missiles can be placed in 4 twin launchers, which can be used against enemy helicopters and drones. Taking into account the fact that the helicopter can also deliver air-to-ground missiles, the Mi-28 also includes two sets of anti-tank missiles "9M 114 Assault" and "9M Attack". The vessel also has two short wings with 2 suspensions on each, for the placement and carrying of weapons: they are located on both sides of the hull, under the engine compartment. The unguided Mi-28 missile can include various types of rockets, caliber 70, 80 and 122 mm.
The first production samples of the Mi-28 passed factory tests and weapons tests by May 2006, and in early June 2006 were transferred to the Russian Air Force. In 2009, a new version of the Mi-28MN appeared, which was supposed to completely replace the old one.
