Commander-in-Chief of NATO forces in Europe Christopher Cavoli urged to take into account non-state players "who play a significant role, for example in space"BRUSSELS, January 19.
/tass/. The conflict in Ukraine has demonstrated the key role of the information and space dimensions of the fighting. This was stated on Thursday by the Supreme Commander of the NATO Joint Armed Forces in Europe Christopher Cavoli at a press conference in Brussels following a two-day meeting of the chiefs of the alliance's general staffs and partner countries, including Ukraine.
"This conflict has demonstrated that military force is not the only one, there are other levels <...>, we see the key role of the information component, cybernetic, as well as space. And we must take into account the role of non-state players who play a significant role, for example in space," he said.
In turn, the head of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer, stressed that the conflict in Ukraine is "a combination of the old and the new." "This war is a combination of very old and very new. We see the old trench war of 1914-1918 with a huge expenditure of shells, supplemented by the latest drones, information and computer confrontation," he said.
The NATO Commander-in-Chief for Transformation, Philippe Lavigne, said at the same press conference that, taking into account the first lessons of the conflict in Ukraine, the alliance "must find the right balance between the number and quality of troops, taking into account the current trend in which the number of forces involved is decreasing and the quality is increasing."
